We are thrilled to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the Employee Choice Award with the Living Wage Foundation! Claire, our Digital Engagement Coordinator submitted the entry on behalf of Highland Campervans.

Claire joined Highland Campervans 18 months ago after making some big life changes.  Originally from the Highlands, Claire lived abroad and in England for 25 years and was looking to return to the area to support her mother.

Claire explained: "It was important to me to find an employer who had an understanding of employee wellbeing, and an employer who supported the living wage campaign as I believe this shows the employer respects their employees, and has an understanding of the cost of living.

Highland Campervans were incredibly supportive to me during my relocation to Scotland. I was able to delay my start date for a couple of months, which gave me sufficient time to move out of my home in the South West of England and find suitable accommodation in the Highlands. This took an enormous amount of pressure off me during a very stressful time".

Support for staff wellbeing was the focus of this year's award and Highland Campervans offer several well-being initiatives to employees that must have impressed the judges, these include:

  • 36-hour week for full-time employees
  • Complimentary motorhome hire
  • Monthly Fun Activities
  • 24/7 Wellbeing Support Service
  • A Menopause Policy

This recognition highlights our commitment to creating a fair and supportive workplace for our staff.

Once a month staff get together for a fun activity out of the workplace. This is a chance to get together with other staff under different circumstances.  Past activities have included clay pigeon shooting, paddle boarding, quad biking, archery and even a bit of dolphin spotting on the Moray Firth!

Staff at Highland Campervans are able to make use of the complimentary motorhome hire. This benefit allows staff to have a low cost holiday and staff gain more knowledge and understanding of the motorhomes we sell.

Claire also highlighted our Menopause Policy in the award application.  As a woman-led business, this benefit shows our awareness of menopause symptoms. We believe this is particularly respectful to women experiencing symptoms and knowing that adjustments can be put in place to improve your working environment is very reassuring for our female staff.

The Award Ceremony will take place on 6 November at Rutherglen Town Hall. so fingers crossed for the final result!
